The Supreme Court of the United States of America rejected President Donald John Trump’s bid to deploy National Guard in Chicago because the president does not have the authority to unilaterally deploy federal troops within the borders of a state. The Constitution gives the power to deploy the National Guard to the governors of each state, not the president. In order for the president to deploy federal troops in a state, he would need to receive a request for assistance from the governor or a declaration of a state of emergency from the state legislature. Additionally, the Posse Comitatus Act prohibits the use of federal military forces for domestic law enforcement actions unless specifically authorized by Congress. Therefore, the Supreme Court rejected the bid, stating that it was not within the president’s authority to deploy the National Guard in Chicago without proper authorization from the state.
